URBAN FANTASY

Wow! These guys hit the gas and never let up. I’m exhausted!’
I like karaoke, 80’s hair bands, and shooting pool. What I don’t like is how much I know about the world and the almost immortal Caretakers who control the veil separating it from dangerous supernatural forces.
Well, maybe not immortal after all… because someone just killed a Caretaker, and they did it to send me a message.
Now I’m hip deep in it, I have a seemingly homeless woman in my care who is clearly not telling me everything, and the only way out is to hit this thing head on.
They kicked me out. Dumped me on earth and shunned me. I’ve kept my abilities, my … magic hidden, but I guess I always knew no one ever really gets to walk away.

There is one thing I know for sure …
A reunion with my coven-leader ex-wife is a bad idea.
It’s a shame I don’t get a say in the matter.
I haven’t seen Loren in years … decades even, but here she is, begging for my help and I never could say no.
A conflict is brewing. Ancient families vie for power as a matriarch’s life force dwindles and at least some of them are not going to play fair.
To stop the war and save my ex-wife’s position will take all the skill I possess, not least because I’m going up against demons and they play for keeps. In the end though, the hardest part of this might just be dealing with my feelings for a woman I just never got over.

Doing the right thing. Yeah, how often does that end well?
I have a thing with werewolves, which is to say that I hate them. Of course, it’s the 21st century, so my vampire assistant, Indigo, likens my bias to a form of racism, and when we come across one being hunted for no good reason other than the same prejudice I held, I feel no choice but to offer my protection.
Yet even as I say the words, I can’t help but wonder if my decision won’t work out to be a lot dumber than it sounds, and all too soon the very danger I’m trying to protect an innocent from comes knocking on my door.
I might be doing the right thing, but I know it’s going to cost me. I just have no idea how much. When I find out … well, let’s just say it was more than I could ever have imagined and now I’m going to shove the fight they wanted right down their throats.

What is happening with the dead?
I know how thin the veil between this world and the next can get, but I’ve always been a fan of the dead staying that way.
Of course, I’ve met necromancers in my time. Fought a couple for that matter, but distracted by what at first appear to be random incidents of restless spirits finding their way home, soon becomes full-blown dead rising from their graves.
Not just any dead though, I’m fighting people I’ve already fought, people who went to their graves at my hand.
Fighting the dead? Oh, yeah, that’s gonna be easy.
